HERD NOTES: Matt has been farming since 1990 and on this farm since 1994. He is discontinuing the dairy operation. The cows are mated using Select Sire bulls such as Monaco, Rosko, Trumpet-Red, Hullabaloo, and others. The 1st service is AI bred to a Holstein Bull and the 2nd service to a Hereford Bull. This herd is carrying a lot of red factor. Cows are milked in a stanchion barn and free stall housed. Feed consists of silage, haylage, dry hay, and high moisture corn. Matt is currently shipping a 69 lb herd avg. with a January peak of 85 lbs, and cows reaching up to 120 lbs. The SCC runs around 100,000. Protein.-3.4. BF-4.4. The bulk of this herd comes fresh in the fall. 18 cows due in September and October with a few cows and springers due by sale day. 4 cows fresh in the last 60 days. There are a lot of 1st and 2nd calf heifers in the barn working hard. This herd is not pushed and will respond well at the next level. Truly one of Lafayette County’s best kept secrets.
